God: Clothes Designer

I need to confess.  I love clothes.  It’s almost like I’m a hoarder I have so many.  Now, I’m sure, there are those out there in the world who have more clothes than me.  I’m not saying I’m a world record holder or anything, but the truth still remains: I love clothes.

I love to shop for clothes: at the mall, in a thrift store, online…. pretty much anywhere, I’ll shop there.  I love to create new outfits with the clothes I have.  I’m not much into wearing the same thing.  The challenge is to always wear something new or different from what I’ve worn before.  I’ve gotten pretty good at this since….  you guessed it…I love clothes.

I’m into shoes, and belts, and purses (ever so slightly) and jewelry.  I have alot of jewelry.  It really does stretch ones’ wardrobe, just like all those fashion gurus say!  I can dress a shirt up or down, just by changing my accessories.  Have I mentioned…. I love clothes?

Now you may be wondering why I am rambling on like this. Just the other day I discovered one of the coolest things in my Bible.  God made the first clothes.  Yup, you read that correctly.  God was the world’s first clothing designer!  I’m sure the fit was impeccable, after all, God had created and formed both Adam and Eve not too long before He clothed them!  And yet as cool as this all sounds, it’s also sad. Actually, really sad.

In chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis, in the Bible, you read all about God creating the world and everything in it.  Part of that “everything,”  was Adam and Eve.  In Genesis 2:7 it says, “the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and the man became a living being.”   Genesis 2:21,22 says, “So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh.  Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.” Trust me … it gets better!  The last verse of chapter 2 says, “The man and his wife were both naked and they felt no shame.”

When was the last time you ran around totally naked and didn’t care who saw you!  When was the last time you saw someone else totally naked and you didn’t feel compelled to stare or avert your eyes!  God, in all His goodness, created us to be completely comfortable with who we are, what we look like and how we’re formed.  We were designed …. impeccably! We were created to be amazing, astounding and overwhelmingly impressive, just as we are, no decoration needed.

I still love clothes.  I am glad, and thankful, that people generally tend to wear them.  I don’t think I’d feel comfortable if I was shopping in Walmart with all naked people.  The world has changed since God first made it.  Sadly, Adam and Eve made a choice that allowed sin to enter where God had not chosen.  Even though they acted in a way that God didn’t like, he showed His love, and His grace by designing them some clothes.  That’s the best part of the story: God’s love and His grace.  He goes all out for us you know; He pours out His goodness on us, even when we don’t deserve it, because God loves us.  He loves me.  He loves you. You have been designed impeccably, by the grace and goodness of God.  After all, we are Princesses and Princes of the King.
