Tacos with a side of Peace

At the request of my son, we made homemade salsa last night to have with our tacos. I made my typical homemade guacamole and also created a black bean, corn(fresh off the cob)and mango salad. Let’s just say the kitchen looked “well-used.”  I’m not telling you all this to pat myself on the back for being an amazing “did it from scratch” type of cook.  That’s not really me at all.  The point to my little story is the afterwards.
The clean-up.  It was evidently my son’s night to clean up, but when clean-up time came he was long gone.   My husband encouraged me to just leave it.  I couldn’t do it.  The kitchen was screaming at me, and therefore driving me nuts.  My solution was to just do it myself. “Get ‘er done!” as the saying goes.

The question that lingered for me is this: Was the kitchen really screaming that loudly, or did I just not want the hassle of making sure my son cleaned the kitchen, at that particular moment, to the specifications that would silence the voices in my head?  Still makes me think, “Hmmm……”  It’s curious to me what I will do all for the sake of “peace.”

My guess is you’re not much different from me. Perhaps you’ll clean, or do some other distasteful task, because it’s less hassle to do it, than to encourage someone else to do it. Or you will participate in an activity that you would just as soon avoid, because you don’t want to deal with the discussion that would ensue should you speak up.  All because we want a little peace.

I was reading this morning in my Bible and was lead to the verse in John 14 that says “Peace I leave with you;  my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (verse 27) As one of God’s Princesses, I am given the gift of Peace. This is not the run of the mill, get-your-son-to-clean-up-dishes-after-making-amazing-Tacos-on-a-Thursday-night type of peace.  This is when-the-world-is-crashing-in-on-you type of peace. This peace reminds me that God, the creator of all I see, the One who is in charge of all the details of my life, is Ruler, Lord and King. The Bible says that with God NOTHING is impossible, even giving me peace when all I see around me is the remnants of a war I’d as soon forget.

I’d love to tell you more about this amazing peace that God gives so generously.  You know where to find me.  Blessings on your day!
